Draft Night Phone Call with Owner Jeffrey Lurie

Eagles Set Draft Record, Pick Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Son of Legendary Birds LB

The Philadelphia Eagles made a bold move on draft night, trading up to the No. 155 overall pick to select Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of former Eagles third-round Pro Bowler Jeremiah Trotter Sr.

The move led to an emotional phone call with owner Jeffrey Lurie, who expressed his admiration for both Trotter Jr. and his father.

"This is a special moment for us," Lurie said. "Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is a talented player, and we're excited to have him in Philadelphia. His father is a legend in this city, and we're confident that Jeremiah Jr. can follow in his footsteps."

In the days leading up to the draft, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman had discussed the importance of legacy and the urgency of potentially adding a player with Trotter Jr.'s pedigree.

"We're always looking for players who can make an immediate impact," Roseman said. "Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has the talent and the work ethic to be a key contributor to our team."

The move to trade up for Trotter Jr. is a sign of the Eagles' commitment to building a winning team. The Eagles stockpiled seven Day 3 picks for Rounds 4-7, hoping to capitalize with players who can contribute immediately.

Trotter Jr. is a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker who played in 53 games with 20 starts during his Clemson career. He recorded 144 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and three interceptions.

Trotter Jr. is expected to compete for a starting job in the Eagles' defense.
