FA Cup Semi-Final: Manchester City Edges Chelsea With Late Silva Header
Silva's Header Sends City Through to Final
Manchester City's Thiago Silva scored a dramatic late header to secure a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The match was a closely fought contest, with both teams having chances to win the game. However, it was City who ultimately prevailed thanks to Silva's headed goal in the 88th minute.
The win means that City will face Liverpool in the FA Cup final on May 27. It will be the second time that the two teams have met in the FA Cup final in the past three years, with City winning 1-0 in 2019.
City Dominate Possession but Chelsea Create Chances
City started the match the brighter of the two teams and dominated possession in the early stages. However, Chelsea gradually grew into the game and created a number of good chances, with Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount both going close.
City had the best chance of the first half when Kevin De Bruyne played a through ball to Erling Haaland, but the Norwegian striker's shot was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Silva's Late Header Seals Victory
Chelsea started the second half strongly and continued to create chances. However, it was City who eventually broke the deadlock when Silva headed home a corner from De Bruyne in the 88th minute.
Chelsea pushed for an equalizer in the dying minutes but were unable to find a way through the City defense.
City's Winning Run Continues
The win over Chelsea was City's fifth consecutive victory in all competitions. It also extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
City are now just one game away from winning their second FA Cup in three years. They will be confident of beating Liverpool in the final and securing their first domestic treble.
