Nets Trade Kyrie Irving to Mavericks, Cason Wallace to Oklahoma City
Frontcourt Focus and Draft Day Deal
The Dallas Mavericks have made a significant trade ahead of the NBA's trade deadline, sending star guard Kyrie Irving to the Brooklyn Nets. In return, the Mavericks have acquired Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie, two experienced players who can contribute immediately.
Cason Wallace Headed to Oklahoma City
As part of the Irving trade, the Mavericks also traded the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Cason Wallace, to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wallace, a 6'4" guard from the University of Kentucky, was considered one of the best defensive prospects in the draft. With the Thunder rebuilding, Wallace has a chance to play a major role for them immediately.
Mavs Strengthen Frontcourt, Seek Playoff Push
The Mavericks' decision to acquire Gafford is a clear indication that they are prioritizing the frontcourt. Gafford, a 6'10" center, is a strong rebounder and defender who can provide a physical presence in the paint. With Kristaps Porzingis still recovering from an injury, Gafford should provide a much-needed boost to the Mavericks' frontcourt rotation.
