France defeats Egypt in Olympic semi-final

Les Bleus reach the final after a 3-1 victory

France booked their place in the final of the men's Olympic football tournament on Monday with a 3-1 extra-time victory over Egypt.

The French side took the lead in the 12th minute through Moussa Dembele, but Egypt equalized just six minutes later through Ahmed Hegazy. The match remained level for the rest of normal time, with neither side able to find a winning goal.

In extra-time, France took control of the match and scored twice through Gerson Rodrigues and Andre-Pierre Gignac. Egypt had a couple of chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a second goal.

The victory means that France will face Brazil in the gold medal match on Saturday. Egypt will face Mexico in the bronze medal match on Friday.

France's victory is a major achievement for the country. It is the first time that the French men's Olympic football team has reached the final since 1984.
